Cape Cod Disposal Site Monitoring and Marker Buoy Maintenance

CR Environmental, Inc. conducted the first year monitoring of the Cape Cod Disposal Site to map and assess the status of the site one year following the first disposal of dredged material. The project included precision bathymetric, sub-bottom, and side-scan surveys of the CCDS and two alternative reference areas. In addition, a sediment profile camera survey and sediment sampling for grain size and chemical analyses were performed. Field operations were performed from CR Environmental’s 32-ft survey vessel Cyprinodon and the 62-ft F/V Christopher Andrew. Data from the CCDS surveys was then processed, analyzed and summarized in a First Year Monitoring Report. Results of the study indicated that the CCDS could be managed as a containment site and that disposal activities have had no detrimental impacts.

In addition to the first year monitoring, CR Environmental and Mooring Systems, Inc. have been performing the retrieval, deployment, and maintenance of the CCDS Marker Buoy since 1996.
