Sediment Sampling
New Bedford Harbor Superfund Site, MA

In the fall of 1999, CR Environmental supported ENSR Consulting and Engineering on a comprehensive sediment sampling program in the PCB and heavy metal laden New Bedford Harbor under the New England ACOE Environmental Services Contract. About 50 stations in the outer, middle, and upper estuary were sampled for sediment chemistry and benthic enumeration. Operations were performed from the 32-ft survey vessel Cyprinodon that was specially outfitted for benthic sampling operations, with a hydraulic winch and A-frame and large side-mounted sieving table.

An 8 x 12 ft raft was used to sample in less than one foot of water in the shallow reaches of the upper harbor.
