Allen Harbor Bathymetry

Pre- and post- dredging precision bathymetric survey of Allen Harbor in the fall and winter  of 1998 at the U.S. Naval facility on Allen Harbor in Davisville, Rhode Island. The reports  provided data products included bathymetric maps and volume calculations in support of the  dredging operation.

Ecological Risk Assessments Connecticut Facilities

Providing recommendations for media sampling at four Electric Boat sites and a strategy for conducting ecological risk assessments at three of the sites in Connecticut along the Poqounock and Thames tidal rivers, and a freshwater portion of Birch Plain Creek. EB is working with the CT DEP and the EPA in a proactive effort to investigate these properties.  A screening level ecological risk assessment has been conducted for the Poquonock River site. Work along the Thames River has included the collection of river sediment, surface water and lobsters using CR's 32-foot research vessel R/V Cyprinodon outfitted with a Ted Young grab, Seabird Seacat CTD, and Kemmerer water sampler, and divers. Analytical work for sediment, surface water and lobster tissue were conducted by outside labs. Sediment was also evaluated for benthic community structure and amphipod toxicity. This information along with groundwater and soil data being collected by EMCON was used in an ecological risk evaluation for the shipyard facility.

Ecological Risk Assessment Hampshire Chemical

Ecological risk assessment for cyanide, ammonia and formaldehyde contamination at Hampshire Chemical Corporation on the Merrimack River in Nashua, New Hampshire.

New York City Department of Environmental Protection Catskill/Delaware Reservoirs

Vessel support, equipment, and sampling logistics since December 1996 for bathymetric and sub-bottom profiling at seven reservoirs in the Catskill/Delaware range for the NYCDEP. Extensive bottom sediment grab sampling and cores will be collected for chemical analysis and nutrient flux measurements to help calibrate and verify reservoir hydrodynamic and water quality models. CR Environmental team members will also be responsible for first authorship on publications resulting from this effort. The work is mandated by the USEPA Filtration Avoidance Determination which requires that NYCDEP have the capability of accurately assessing potential sources of contamination in the watershed of the City's drinking water supply.

Mercury Study Quabbin & Wachusett Reservoirs

Part of a project team investigating mercury in the Quabbin and Wachusetts Reservoirs of Massachusetts. CR's work involved a general review of mercury in freshwater systems, a compilation of information on mercury levels in reservoir fish, and review of the ecological and human health risk assessments. Side-scan sonar and sediment sampling was conducted off R/V Cyprinodon in areas of flooded towns.

Wachusett Reservoir Cunningham Ledge Feasibility Study

Assessment of the potential environmental impacts, constraints, and permitting requirements for the proposed controlled blasting of Cunningham Ledge and dredging of 40 acres of shallows at Wachusett Reservoir to eliminate bird roosting and breeding site that are linked to elevated coliform levels at the Cosgrove Intake.

Logan Airport Sediment Sampling

Vessel and sediment sampling support for the Massachusetts Port Authority's investigation of the north outfall adjacent to Logan Airport, Boston Inner Harbor.

Charles River Bathymetry

Precision bathymetric survey for the Charles River in the vicinity of the Storrow Drive Connector Bridge, Central Artery (I-93)/Tunnel (I-90) Project.
