Long Island Cable Route Survey    Off Fire Island, Moriches, and Jones Inlet, and Northport, Long Island, New York
CR Environmental provided vessel, equipment, and diving support on a transatlantic fiber optic cable route for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) under subcontract to ALCATEL.

The purpose of the survey and diving operations was to characterize five potential landing sites for the cable in Long Island Sound and on the south shore of Long Island.

The 32-foot survey vessel Cyprinodon was outfitted with a Geometric G-880 cesium magnetometer, Klein side-scan sonar, ORE 3.5 kHz sub-bottom profiler, TRITON ELICS Isis sonar processor, Odom Echotrack Survey Fathometer, Trimble 4000 DGPS units, and the SAIC PINS II Navigation Software.  Over 200 line miles were surveyed over a 10 day survey period. In addition, CR divers performed underwater video and sediment probing operations in the surf zone at the cable landing points.
